At Coastal Family Eyecare, we can recommend doctor approved facial products to keep your eyes and the surrounding skin clean, hydrated, and protected. From gentle lid scrubs and soothing heat masks to preservative-free eye drops and skin care products, we will help you find everything you need to support your eye health while keeping your skin looking great.
Our approved lid care and cosmetic products
We are proud to partner with Dry Eye Rescue to make essential lid care products accessible and easy to ship straight to you. On Dry Eye Rescue and in our clinic, you can find the foundations for good lid hygiene. Each product has been ophthalmologist and dermatologist developed or approved and is specifically recommended by Dr. Wilder over other brands based on thorough research and patient feedback.
Zocular Lid Scrubs
Lid scrubs are specially formulated to clean along the eyelid margins where normal cleansers are too harsh. Zocular Lid Scrubs use natural okra for a gentle clean that also fights Demodex mites. Use 1–2 times daily along the lashline. Rinse with warm water.
Heat and Lid Massage
To help the oil glands, heat masks should be used for 10 minutes prior to gentle eyelid massage at least three times a week. USB and microwave options are available, but washcloths are not recommended due to unstable heating and bacteria buildup.
Avenova Spray Solution
Applying this hypochlorous 0.01% acid spray to your eyelids twice a day can help eliminate bacteria and microorganisms. Use it after showering or applying lid scrubs in the AM and PM, before putting on moisturizer, makeup, or sunscreen. Avenova is safe to use in and around the eyes. Mild burning is normal and should resolve quickly.
OPTASE® Hylo Night Dry Eye Ointment
A nightly ointment placed along the inside of the lower eyelid can help provide full closure of the eyelids and protect them from exposure to fans, A/C, pet dander, and other irritants, reducing AM grittiness.
OPTASE® Preservative-Free Advanced Dry Eye Drops
Most over-the-counter eyedrops contain preservatives and are often subject to recalls. Preservatives disrupt the normal tear film and contribute to inflammation and ocular surface disease (OSD). We carry preservative-free OPTASE eye drops for mild or severe dry eye. OPTASE is safe for use with contacts. Artificial tears (AT) cannot replace natural tears; they only provide temporary palliative relief for dry eye symptoms. Frequent use of AT indicates the need for more advanced OSD treatments.
LUMIFY® Redness Reliever Eye Drops
LUMIFY up to two times a day is the only redness relief drop we recommend. Please note that LUMIFY is not an artificial tear. Frequent use implies the need for more advanced treatment.
Eyeshadow
Cream eyeshadows are recommended over powders because they reduce the risk of particles flaking off into the eye. Twenty / Twenty cream eyeshadow sticks are made without fragrance, mica, glitter, or other ingredients that irritate the ocular surface.
Eyeliner
Eyeliner is not recommended for application to the waterline as it can easily block the meibomian glands. We recommend Eyes Are The Story eyeliner due to a proprietary preservative system without parabens or formaldehyde. The formula is non-flaking and non-irritating. Safe for sensitive or dry eyes and contact lens wear.
Mascara
Eyes Are The Story flake-free mascara is formulated to protect, strengthen, and extend lashes for a natural look while keeping eye comfort in mind. Each set comes with three mini mascaras, intentionally designed to help minimize contamination and bacteria buildup, traditionally caused by overuse of the same mascara wand. 90-day replacement is recommended for all open mascara.

The chemical concern with cosmetics
In 1938, cosmetics and personal care products were deemed outside the scope of FDA regulation. As a result, these products aren’t evaluated by the FDA, leaving the industry largely unregulated regarding the potential health effects of the ingredients used in cosmetics and personal care items.
The European Union has banned over 1,200 ingredients known to be toxic, carcinogenic, inflammatory, or allergenic while the U.S. has only banned 12 of these ingredients. These non-banned ingredients can be used in personal care products and products like sunscreen that are evaluated by the FDA.
Since our eyes and the skin around them are particularly sensitive, it’s important to steer clear of inflammatory and toxic ingredients whenever possible. This helps keep our eyes healthy now and in the future. Our team is dedicated to your well-being and will only recommend safe products made with non-toxic ingredients, so you can choose your cosmetics and skin care products with confidence.
Ingredients to avoid

- Loose mineral powders/mineral oil
A note on sunscreen
While the FDA regulates sunscreen, we recommend choosing a daily mineral (or physical) sunscreen over a chemical sunscreen. A common place for skin cancer to appear on the face is around the eyes because sunscreen should not be applied to the eyelids. Therefore, it is important to always wear polarized sunglasses outdoors to protect the eyes and eyelids from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
