EMERGENCY EYE CARE
Eye emergencies can happen when you least expect them and getting the right care quickly can make all the difference. In some cases, waiting too long to seek treatment can lead to permanent vision loss.
Emergencies don’t wait for business hours, and neither do we. You can visit our office during business hours or call our main office line at any time at 251-974-1233—it also serves as a 24-hour emergency call line. If you can’t reach us, head to the nearest hospital for immediate care.
Eye emergencies we treat
We can treat a variety of common eye emergencies, including:
- Corneal abrasions (a scratch on the surface of the eye)
- Foreign objects in the eye
- Chemical splashes or burns
- A sudden onset of flashes of light or eye floaters
- Eye infections, especially if accompanied by redness, swelling, or discharge
- Eye diseases
Signs of eye emergencies
While many eye emergencies involve clear symptoms or trauma, some are less obvious. Any sudden change in your vision should be treated as an eye care emergency.
If you suddenly experience any of the following symptoms, it may indicate an emergency:
- A burning or stinging sensation
- Unequal pupil sizes
- Bulging eyes
- Intense eye pain
- Double vision
- Redness or itching
- Bruising or bleeding around the eye
- Severe itching
- Sudden headache
- Eye discharge
- Eyes that do not move together
If you experience any of these symptoms, call our office immediately.
