Comprehensive Eye Exam
Comprehensive eye exams are an important part of preventative health care, in addition to updating prescriptions for vision correction. The American Optometric Association recommends annual eye exams for all adults, and pediatric eye exams at least every two years for children. Children with vision problems should have an eye exam annually as well. We are happy to welcome patients in all stages of life, including children getting their first pair of glasses, adults coming in for their annual diabetic eye exam, and patients who have begun to develop cataracts or other age-related diseases.
What to expect at an eye exam
You will receive a warm welcome anytime you walk through our doors, and we have streamlined our check-in process to avoid any hassle. Our digital forms allow you to fill out your information at your convenience before your exam. Our receptionist will verify your appointment needs and insurance with you when you schedule and when you check in, as well as provide you with an estimate on out-of-pocket expenses like copays or deductibles
In our practice, we take time during scheduling and then again during pretesting to talk with you about any issues you may be experiencing. Our experienced technician will get you ready to see the optometrist by performing valuable testing like acuities and intraocular pressure, as well as taking digital retinal images and verifying your medical history.
After reviewing your digital retinal photos and discussing any of your concerns about your eyes, Dr. Wilder will perform a refraction to determine a prescription for your best-corrected vision.
She will also examine your anterior surface and the retina in the back of your eye with the slit lamp to ensure everything is healthy. Dr. Wilder is always ready to explain any new findings with reassurance. Please note that this part of the exam often requires a dilation in order for Dr. Wilder to get a closer look at the structures inside your eyes.
After your exam, you’re ready to work with our expert optician on filling your glasses or contact lens prescription so that you can see clearly and look your best.
